A recent study shows that those who have dental cleanings have a 24% lower risk of heart attack and a 13% lower risk of stroke compared to those who do not have dental cleanings.  Another reason to have your teeth cleaned besides the oral health benefit!

Recent studies show a link between periodontal disease and pancreatic cancer.  If you have gum disease you are more prone to developing pancreatic cancer.  The more severe the periodontal disease, the more quickly the pancreatic cancer appears and progresses.  No, gum disease doesn't directly cause pancreatic cancer but it can be a factor.

So, maintain a clean and healthy mouth!

Politics aside, Congressman Dennis Kucinich is suing a Capitol Hill cafeteria for $150,000. It seems that he bit into a sandwich wrap which had an unpitted olive that did that much damage to his teeth.

That must've been some olive! With Cincinnati prices he could literally have all his teeth extracted and implants and crowns placed for every single one of his teeth for about half that amount.

Jessica Simson: "I don't brush my teeth!"

On March 11 singer Jessica Simpson told iheartradio "I don't brush my teeth. No, really! I just use Listerine and sometimes I'll use my sweater."

This is wrong on so many levels. You physically have to remove the debris from the teeth. No rinse will do it. This is the equivalent of saying one doesn't take showers but uses lots of deodorant.

Look for Jessica doing advertisements for dentures in the future.

Top Dentists?

The February 2010 issue of Cincinnati magazine has a section titled "Top Dentists." If you look very closely at the fine print you will see that it is a special advertising section.

I received a solicitation to be listed in this as did probably all other dentists in the Cincinnati area. For several hundred dollars I too could be one of those "Top Dentists." I declined.

I find it inherently deceptive to pay money to be called a top dentist. I'd just rather let my work speak for itself.
